The federal government has called on the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to assist the power sector in getting an economically workable feasibility study that can promote the viability of the various dams in the country.

The call was made in Abuja by the minister of power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, while receiving the director-general, UNIDO, Mr Li Yon, who was accompanied by the Nigerian Ambassador to Austria, Abel Adelakun Ayoko.

Nebo stated that a majority of the country’s dams have potentials for hydro-power, but regretted that their potentials have not been exploited for power generation.

He explained that if the potentials from the dams are fully utilised, many small scale businesses would spring up, communities will be industrialised, thus contributing towards the eradication of poverty in the nation and bringing about economic transformation.
