PROPOSED ISIVUNGUVUNGU WIND ENERGY FACILITY SITUATED NEAR SALDANHA, WESTERN CAPEIsivunguvungu Wind Energy Converters (IWEC) is proposing the construction of a wind energy facility (WEF) on Remainder 129 of the Farm Yzervarkensrug, Farm 195/2 Jakkalskloof and Farm 1132 (the current ArcelorMittal: Saldanha Works steel manufacturing plant), near Saldanha, Western Cape. The proposed WEF would consist of 6 wind turbines with a total capacity of approximately 15 MW. The associated infrastructure includes an 11kV powerline; 6 transformers, a temporary site office, construction of a new road between the turbines and widening of the existing gravel road. The footprint of the project will be ±2.68ha and the size of the property for the proposed development is ±115ha. All the wind turbines and associated infrastructure will be constructed on a portion of the Remainder 129 of the Farm Yzervarkensrug and 195/2 of the Farm Jakkalskloof; a portion of the 11kV powerline will be constructed on Farm 1132. Aurecon South Africa (Pty) Ltd (Aurecon) has been appointed by IWEC to assist in fulfilling the legally required environmental process for the proposed project. Read more…..
Sere Wind Facility (Eskom)The Sere Wind Facility will have an installed capacity of 100 MW and associated power evacuation infrastructure. The site layout, the site boundary reconfiguration and the hub height have been optimised through computational fluid dynamics modelling. The resultant Sere site capacity factor is at the 26% to 32% range at hub heights modelled between 80 to 100 meters. Environmental authorisation allows for hub heights of up to 120 meters, based on wind data measured at the Sere site and 40-year long-term atmospheric modelled wind resource data procured from three-tier analysis. Sere’s wind regime has been ranked Class III (moderate to low wind), based on 15 months
of wind measurements at 60 meters met mast and 5-year data correlation with a met mast 10 km away. Only wind turbine generators sized to the site conditions and grid specifications will be required. The unit installed capacity of the wind turbine generators is proposed to be between 1.5 MW and 3.0 MW.

DNA Wind Farm (Pty) Ltd is proposing to establish a commercial wind energy facility and associated infrastructure on a site located within Emalahleni Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape Province. The proposed wind energy facility is to be developed by Rainmaker Energy Projects (Pty) Ltd. The proposed site is situated in an area approximately 10 km north-east of Indwe, along the R56 regional road. A cluster of up to 24 wind turbines, collectively referred to as a Wind Energy Facility is planned to be constructed over an area of approximately 980 ha in extent.

Windlab Developments South Africa Pty Ltd is proposing to establish a commercial wind energy facility on a site between Cookhouse and Bedford in the Eastern Cape Province. It is proposed for a cluster of up to 350 wind turbines (described as a wind energy facility) to be constructed over an area of approximately 273 km2 in extent. This project is known as the Amakhala Emoyeni Wind Energy Facility. This project has been registered with National DEA under Application Reference number 12/12/20/1754.

VentuSA Energy is proposing the establishment of a commercial wind energy facility and associated infrastructure which will be referred to as the Deep River Wind Energy Facility. Dorper Wind Farm (Pty) Ltd is proposing to establish a commercial wind energy facility and associated infrastructure on a site located within Inkwanca Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape Province. The proposed wind energy facility is to be developed by Rainmaker Energy Projects (Pty) Ltd (Rainmaker). The facility will be referred to in this report as the Dorper Wind Energy Facility. The proposed site for the Wind Energy Facility is situated between the towns of Sterkstroom and Molteno.
Exxaro West Coast Wind Farm, Western Cape Province – Reference 12/12/20/1932
Exxaro Resources is proposing to establish a commercial wind energy facility and associated infrastructure of up to 66 MW on a site located in the Matzikama Local Municipal area. The proposed wind energy facility will be known as the Exxaro West Coast Wind Farm and is proposed to be constructed on land owned by Namakwa Sands, north-west of Vredendal in the Western Cape Province. The wind energy facility is proposed to accomodate up to 27 turbines, spaced to make use of the wind resource on the sites. The area in which the wind turbines would be situated is an area of approximately 1968 hectares (ha). Exxaro Resources and Watt Energy (Pty) Ltd are proposing to establish a commercial wind energy facility and associated infrastructure on a site located within the Kouga Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape Province. The proposed site is situated approximately 30 km west of Humansdorp, south of the N2 National Road in the Tsitsikamma area. Based on an extensive pre-feasibility analysis and site identification process undertaken, as well as an analysis of the wind resource in the area, a favourable area has been identified for consideration and assessment as per the requirements of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
