Executive Secretary of Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA), Matthew Matimbwi, and Alwyn Smith (SAAEA) have initiated discussions to align the associations in the interest of regional cooperation in promoting renewable energy on the African continent.
TAREA has been registered with the Tanzanian Ministry of Home Affairs in May of 2001. Since then, it has always pursued its objective of encouraging the use of renewable energy sources.

Tanzania Renewable Energy Association is a non-governmental organization (NGO). Furthermore, TAREA is non-profit making, attempting only to cover its running cost and any project expenditure.
