Renewables firm pushes ahead with big wind vision, as initial project clears first hurdle: “Independent power producer (IPP) Rainmaker Energy has confirmed that it is continuing to develop its 600 MW Stormberg wind energy project, in the Eastern Cape, having met initial bidding success, together with partners, in a smaller wind development.

The Rainmaker-linked Dorper wind farm project was recently named as a preferred bidder under the renewable-energy IPP procurement pro-gramme (REIPPPP) being run by the South African Department of Energy (DoE).

“Having Dorper selected as a preferred bidder by the DoE is a significant achievement and confirms Rainmaker Energy’s aim to develop and own alternative energy projects across Africa. “We have a larger vision for wind energy in South Africa and developing the various phases of the Stormberg facility will be the culmination of that vision,” explains Rainmaker Energy executive director Luke Callcott-Stevens.”
