In response to South Africa’s growing demand for electricity, the need to diversify Eskom’s energy mix, and the desire to meet South Africa’s targets for renewable energy, Eskom investigated South Africa’s renewable energy resources with a view to identifying alternative ways to meet the country’s electricity needs. Pursuant to this endeavour, Eskom is proposing a renewable energy project consisting of sub-Saharan Africa’s first pilot/demonstration concentrated solar power plant and Eskom’s largest utility-scale wind power plant in South
Africa.
