Germany Seeks Collaboration To Promote Nigeria’s Renewable Energy Policy

German government is seeking effective collaboration that would help in delivering other sources of energy in Nigeria.

Under the consideration, the country intends to provide technical back-up to Nigeria in the area of renewable energy.

Head of energy and environment desk of the delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria , Baerbel Freyer, who gave this indication said the country was concerned about Nigeria’s lingering energy crises.

The delegation is therefore planning series of events that would deal on potential of renewable energies and environment in Nigeria .

Freyer said Nigeria should pay particular attention on renewable energy as alternative to its over-reliance on oil to generate power across the country.

She said the German government would be willing to transfer technical know-how to key players in Nigeria’s power sector, as they were eager to collaborate with Nigeria on the various alternative sources of power generation.

She stressed the need to discuss on energy issues especially with regards to renewable energy because it has the potential to solve Nigeria’s power problems.

She observed a level of information and knowledge among stakeholders in the area but added that people were beginning to realise that in the long run, the power shortage could only be overcome using renewable energies option.

She lauded the federal government for the privatisation of the power sector, but advised on regulation to deal with pricing and enforcement.
