Energy from waste in Durban South Africa…Video

Power generation through gas extraction from landfills around the city of Durban. A CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) project registered under the Kyoto protocol, the project captures methane gas, a strong greenhouse gas, and burns it, replacing dirty coal power in 6000 homes. This creates carbon credits that will be used to support the project. Marc Wright from Durban Solid Waste explains the nature of the project.
