Pretoria – The Mpumalanga provincial government has appointed a task team to look into the disruption of water services that had plagued the small municipality of Emalahleni in recent months.
The province’s MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Norman Mokoena, on Tuesday said the task team will collect information regarding the disruption of water services in the municipality.
The team will look at infrastructure challenges, before compiling a technical report and recommendations. It is expected to complete its work within a week.
“The MEC will study the outcome of the report and ensure that the municipality, assisted by the District Municipality, Provincial Government and Department of Water fully implements the recommendations,” the department said.
The MEC’s immediate concern was to ensure that the water supply and quality was improved.
Mokoeana appealed to residents to co-operate with the municipality.
“We understand that the residents have been hugely affected by the problems of the municipality … the matter of basic service delivery, including water and institutional support, are receiving urgent attention. We urge residents to continue paying for their services,” he said. – BuaNews
