Solar system manufacturing plant to be launched in South Africa

Pretoria – Energy Minister Dipuo Peters is expected to launch the R10 million Ikhwezi Solar System manufacturing facility in East London in the Eastern Cape on Friday.

Peters believes that the solar system will assist government to meet its target of providing one million solar water heaters by 2014.

The facility will manufacture flat plate solar thermal collectors necessary for environmentally friendly energy sources.

The facility, which was imported from Germany, will create jobs and train installers in the solar technology field locally through this local manufacturing plant.

The Solar Thermal absorbers are necessary for the conversion of solar radiation into energy welding process is the most advanced and commercially viable technology for their industrial mass production.

Practical alternatives to reducing the carbon footprint of the facility were adopted in the design and construction of the factory.  – BuaNews
