Addis Ababa — Sierra Leone was represented at the just concluded second high level meeting of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) in Addis Ababa by the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Alhaji Randolph Foday Bayoh. The conference was jointly hosted by the government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the African Union Commission (AUC).

The overriding objectives of the conference were to highlight the unique nature and success story of the Africa-EU Cooperation on energy and catalyze commitment and action towards meeting the future energy challenges facing the two continents.

The event was also important because it brought Africa and Europe closer together in finding a lasting solution to addressing the perennial problems associated with the lack of sufficient energy in the continent.

The meeting further provided an opportunity to strengthen the visibility of African and European efforts directed at tackling the continued and enhanced cooperation under the established framework of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership.

In accordance with the first high-level meeting which was held in Vienna in September 2010, the second AEEP high-level meeting envisages participation of African and European ministers, Commissioners, policy-makers, representatives from regional institutions, international organizations, the banking and finance industry, the private sector, academia, the civil society and the media.

The experts meeting, which preceded the ministerial meeting, was also attended by Mr. Lamin Souma, Director, Water Directorate in the Ministry of Water Resources.
