Opportunity:Potential technology commercialisation and development funding according to the different TIA investment portfolios that can be viewed at www.tia.org.za. TIA and its collaborative partner Eskom are seeking to help advance ocean current energy technology to a point where it becomes commercially available.
Timelines:
Phase 1 – Demonstrate proof of concept (1-3 months)
Phase 2 – Scale proof of concept up to commercialisation (3 months – 2 years)
Funding:
Phase 1 – Funding commensurate with proposed activity, according to sponsor’s normal funding requirements.
Feedback response time: 1-2 months
Challenge description:
TIA in fulfilling its mandate, “Stimulating and intensifying technological innovation in order to improve economic growth and the quality of life of all South Africans by developing and exploiting technological innovations” and in collaboration with Eskom seek proposals from inventors, SMMEs, companies, entrepreneurs and researchers who have novel ocean current energy technologies. Successful technologies must have passed the proof-of-concept stage.
The challenge will be launched on the 1st of June 2012 and will close on the 3rd of
July 2012. TIA will be holding public engagement workshops as advised in Table 1
