The timing of the 4th WIND POWER AFRICA Conference and Renewable Energy Exhibition 28 to 30 May 2012 in Cape Town could not be better, taking into consideration the following:
- Just before the conference the Minister Peters will announce on the 14th of May the selected bidders from the 2nd Bid.
- 1st bidders are finalizing financial closing of projects and will start to prepare for implementation
- Also some of the bidders from the 1st Bid will not be able to reach financial close due to unexpected facts as for example lack of grid capacity.
- Submission of the third Bid is due on 20th of August
Just to implement the first IRP 1 phase of 1 850 MW until 2015 wind components for +/- 1 000 wind power units need to be handled:
- +/- 3 000 blades up to 55 m long
- +/- 9 000 tower sections up to 35 m long
- +/- 1 000 nacelles up to 80 tons each
- 350 000 tons of concrete
- 6 500 abnormal loads (13 per day)
- transport costs from overseas harbour to local sites between ZAR 500 000 to 3 600 000
No doubt there are many good reason to be present at the 4th WIND POWER AFRICA Conference and Renewable Energy Exhibition 28 to 30 May 2012 in Cape Town to meet:
- OEM and components suppliers,
- National, Provincial and local policy makers and regulators,
- Developers,
- Financers,
- operators and IPPs,
- Interest groups
- Key Technical and other peers,
- Media (print and electronic),
- General public and others
