The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has disclosed that Nigeria’s coal deposit can be used to power electricity for the next 20 to 30 years, just as he advocated for energy conservation by electricity customers.
Nebo, who disclosed this recently, while receiving the Zuma Energy Group, led by its Chairman, Dr. Innocent Ezuma, said, “The quantum of coal deposit in the country is large enough to provide electricity to the nation for the next 20 to 30 years, with reserves unproven in the same region.”
The minister, who harped on the success of the ongoing Coal-to-Power project, noted that the African Development Bank (AfBD) had indicated interest on the provision of Partial Risk Guarantee (PRG) for coal-to-power project in the country.
He commended Zuma Energy’s consistence in the pursuance of the coal project as a pioneer in coal-to-power. He assured that government on its part will put in place a suitable framework for the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) as well as a PRG to ensure that off-takers buy all the power generated from the company’s plant.
