The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced that Mongolia has joined the Partnership for Action on the Green Economy (PAGE), a new initiative of UNEP, the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), to assist in the global transition to a green economy.

PAGE is a direct response to the outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) held in June 2012. The Partnership will initially focus on seven pilot countries and expand to assist 30 participating countries by 2020.

According to UNEP, Mongolia is currently developing several policies that will place the country on a green development path, including policies on sustainable mining, renewable energy and ecotourism. As part of its PAGE activities, UNEP indicates that it plans to engage Mongolia on other issues, including climate change.
