Ompi Aphane, deputy director-general of South African Department of Energy, recently told Recharge that ‘ultimately large-scale CSP is the strategic choice for us … within a decade or so CSP will eclipse all other renewable technologies in the country’s energy mix.’
Growth is tempered as the government need to go ‘slowly, slowly, and make sure we don’t get ahead of ourselves with regard to CSP and renewables more broadly.’ However the most exciting news for CSP bidders and suppliers is that Ompi Aphane confirmed that they expect to see more CSP capacity to be included in the second round of tenders, due to be unveiled by March 2012.
This news is perfectly timed with the CSP Today South Africa 2012 conference taking place on 7 – 8 February in Johannesburg, offering you the chance to hear the latest on the CSP market, understand technology solutions and network with the senior level executives doing business in South Africa! You can see the brochure here to get a preview of what to expect.
