Renewable energy company Carbo Consult Engineering was lauded at Frost & Sullivan’s (F&S’s) third yearly African Excellence Awards, when it scooped the 2010 South African Biomass Gasification Technology Innovation Leadership Award.
Carbo Consult’s CCE-SJ Gasproducer consumes solid biomass fuels and produces tar-free gas for electricity generation and heat applications.
The biomass generators are considered self-contained, efficient and cost-effective alternative energy solutions for use in non-grid and remote areas, where it may be difficult to obtain liquid fuels, or where the costs thereof are too high, but where biomass material is readily available.
“The companies that received awards have shown innovation, competitiveness and leadership in meeting the particular demands of doing business in Africa,” said F&S Africa consulting director Hendrik Malan.
F&S said that the awards were made to companies showcasing leading ideas and innovation across a variety of sectors including energy, healthcare, ICT, industrial automation and chemicals.
