2013 Nigeria Green Economy Award finalist announced

The Green Economy Award aims to promote, empower and recognize the achievements of Nigerians in the sustainability and energy efficiency. As part of the Nigeria energy Award’s on-going commitment to encouraging Green Projects and Investments, each year the Local Organizing committee of NAEE, in conjunction with Mathesis Consulting, Nigeria Alternative Energy Consortium, and sponsors, host the Green Economy Award ceremonies in celebration and recognition of the achievements of individuals, organizations, Academia, corporate sector and government. The awards recognize industry excellence in the areas of commercial, industrial, residential community engagement, Government, Energy Champion, Energy efficiency awareness, innovation and media as well as technical. The purpose of these Awards is to reward exceptional effort in the more efficient use of energy. We believe that our commitment to acknowledging their achievements is crucial to the future of Nigeria energy efficiency.
The finalists of the 2013 Nigeria Green Economy Award are:

Commercial
for the application of sound energy efficiency projects in the last 12 months in the commercial sector, for instance projects in hotels, shopping centres, businesses or hospitals etc

Industrial
for the application of sound energy efficiency projects in the last 12 months in the industrial sector, for instance projects at manufacturing plants, smelters, mines, etc
i. Schwaib Nigltd

iii. Monenco Engineering Ltd
Residential
for the application of sound energy efficiency projects in the last 12 months in the residential sector, such as people reducing their household consumption drastically or residential street lighting projects
i. Mirivales Group
ii. Anbez Solar
iii. UNDP-GEF Energy Efficiency programme
Government
for the energy efficiency projects in the last 12 months in the Governmental sector, including Ministries, States Government parastals and municipalities,
i. Lagos State
ii. Delta State
iii. Energy Commission of Nigeria

Energy Champion 
aimed at individuals who have made a huge impact in terms of advocating or promoting energy efficiency
i. Engr. Reynolds Dagogo-Jack (Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Power)
ii. Rev. Dr. Sabinus Iweadighi – Margleo International Secondary School
iii. Etiosa Uyigue – National Project Coordinator of the UNDP GEF EE Programme
Community engagement
for orginsation/ Person who have rolled out innovative energy projects in rural or urban communities

iii. National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency
Young designers
aimed at school-going children with a creative idea, programme, design or prototype that looks at the efficient use of energy and not the generation of energy.

iii. Jessica Matthews – who invented a power-generating football called SOCCKET ball.
Energy efficiency awareness
aimed at media or communication managers within large corporates who have made an exceptional effort to promote energy efficiency to employees.

Innovation
this new category recognises prototypes that reduce the energy consumption of equipment of buildings in any way, or brilliant ideas that could contribute to energy efficiency

Energy savings in households
this new category recognises and rewards people who have implemented innovative energy efficiency applications at home.

All categories and finalists celebrate excellence and leadership in the Nigeria clean energy industry.
Winners were announced and presented with an award at the Nigeria Energy Award Gala Dinner in Abuja, Thursday 17 October 2013.
